These are cocoa beans. Raw cocoa beans, as in what chocolate is made from. They have a very hard husk on the outside, almost like a shell. They are not processed, so they are bitter as fuck and in no way taste good. And most apparently, at least to me, THERE ARE PENS SITTING IN THEM. These cocoa beans are there to look interesting and hold our pens. Note there are three pens. People ask if these are samples, and sometimes they ask if the pens are chop sticks. We have signage up stating that we do not have samples, and yet I have at least one person try to eat one of these a day! ONE PERSON A DAY tries to eat something sitting out at an airport, in a cup with pens. The beans, even if they were almonds like people think they are, are COVERED in purple ink from our pens. This started out funny, but now it actually has started to stress me out. Seriously, I am feeling a bit of anxiety over the fact that people try (and a lot succeed) to eat these beans. I have stopped putting the cup out, I just put the pens on the counter even though the company does not want me to and technically it is against the company's image and all that jazz... I just can't handle watching people be so gross.
